Mediation Services in London
Independent civil, commercial and workplace mediation with specialist panels and confidential appointments online or in person by arrangement.
When a dispute in London needs a structured conversation
London-based disputes can combine commercial value, multiple advisers, complex ownership structures and parties working across several jurisdictions. EDR provides civil, commercial and workplace mediation through specialist panels, without presenting itself as having a local office in every borough. Appointments can be organised online or in person at a venue agreed for the case.
Whether you are an individual, business owner, solicitor, adviser or HR professional, an initial enquiry helps identify the dispute type, parties involved, mediator suitability and practical arrangements. EDR does not offer appointments as an accredited consumer ADR provider for regulated consumer-contract disputes.
Multiple parties, advisers and complex commercial matters
For London-related commercial, shareholder, property and workplace disputes, it may be useful to agree a process for participants in different locations. Online meetings can accommodate decision-makers and advisers without assuming a London EDR office or a particular mediator location.

The following examples show how the issues affecting commercial, civil and workplace relationships could be approached through an independent mediation process.
Shareholder, director and partnership exits
Governance deadlock can involve valuation, board control, funding and departure terms. Mediation offers a confidential forum in which owners and advisers can explore comprehensive transaction options.
IP, software and commercial licensing
Disputes about development deliverables, licence scope, confidentiality or technology ownership may require a mediator comfortable with technical context and commercial risk.
Property and professional-services claims
Lease obligations, service charges, appointment terms and professional fees can produce interlocking issues. A mediated outcome may consider timing, revised arrangements and practical closure.
How EDR identifies a suitable mediator
A mediator does not determine legal rights or impose a settlement. EDR considers the specialist subject, independence, potential conflicts, availability, experience and appropriate participation before an appointment is confirmed.

Outline the dispute and who is involved.
Suitability and conflicts

Mediation coverage across London
City of London, Westminster, Canary Wharf, Stratford, Croydon, Ealing, Richmond and other London boroughs. Other communities in London can also be considered. A suitable online appointment does not require the mediator and parties to be in the same location; in-person arrangements depend on availability and agreement.
Can mediation in London take place online?
Yes. EDR offers online civil, commercial and workplace mediation for suitable disputes. Participants can usually join from different places, including their workplace, home or solicitor’s office, without travelling to a shared venue. A secure video meeting can be considered where it is appropriate, accessible and agreed by the parties.
Before the session
We consider suitability, confidentiality, technology, access needs, attendees and the availability of appropriate private spaces. Practical arrangements and any documents to exchange are agreed in advance.
During mediation
The mediator facilitates discussion and may meet parties together or separately as the process requires. Participation, confidentiality expectations and the handling of sensitive material are addressed for the particular case.
When in-person is preferable
Online mediation is not compulsory or right for every dispute. Accessibility, safeguarding, technical constraints, participant preference or case complexity may make an agreed in-person or hybrid approach more suitable.
Our Mediators’ Green Pledge commitment
EDR is a signatory to the World Mediators Alliance on Climate Change (WoMACC) Mediators’ Green Pledge. We encourage online mediation where appropriate and acceptable to those involved, alongside avoiding unnecessary travel and paper documents. Online services still have an environmental footprint; the aim is to make proportionate, responsible choices, not to claim zero emissions.
Read the Green Pledge principles. This is a voluntary signatory commitment, not an environmental certification or a condition of using EDR.

Mediation in London: questions and answers
Can London solicitors nominate a specialist mediator?
Yes. The parties and advisers can suggest a mediator or ask EDR to consider an appropriate specialist, subject to conflicts and availability.
Does EDR offer mediation in central London meeting rooms?
An in-person venue may be agreed as part of the appointment. This page does not imply an EDR-owned central London mediation centre.
Do both parties need to agree to mediation?
Mediation ordinarily requires willing participation from the people or organisations involved. Court directions, ADR obligations and legal deadlines should be discussed with your legal advisers where relevant.
Will the mediator decide who is right?
No. The mediator remains impartial and facilitates negotiation. Settlement terms are for the parties to agree; legal advice may be appropriate before any document is signed.
Does EDR handle regulated consumer-contract ADR complaints?
No. EDR does not currently accept appointments as an accredited consumer ADR provider for regulated consumer-contract disputes. If a sector-approved scheme is required, use an appropriate provider.
Discuss mediation in London
Tell us about the issue, the parties involved, relevant advisers and your preferred format. EDR can consider the appropriate specialist panel and next steps without presuming a mediator appointment is available before checks are completed.
Experienced mediator interested in an EDR panel?
EDR is developing specialist panels across England and Wales. Applicants with relevant registration, accreditation and subject expertise can review panel standards and the appointment approach. Panel membership is subject to vetting.
